F da Y!

Over a month ago TJ told me and the rest of my class that we had to have 100 hands on hours. I called around and finally made some kind of progress at the YMCA. I did everything they wanted me too. Even filled out my application twice because they lost my first one and waited patiently for them to call me and let me know what I can do and when I can start. I do my thing and keep in contact with the person over volunteering. I mean the more time goes by with me doing nothing the more hours I have to catch up on so I want to start ASAP. Time goes on and on and a few days ago I finally call the chick up and leave a message asking that she gives my info to all the departments, not just the fitness and wellness ones. I also put emphasis on the fact that I would really like to start ASAP being that I am like 40 hours behind right now. I wait a couple of days for a call back and I get nothing. By then I am thinking that maybe I could lie about my hours and have one of my girlfriends who works with special needs folks write that I have been going around with her. I didn't want to do it, but I was starting to get a bit desperate.

Yesterday was the deadline I gave the Y to call me and let me know something. I didn't hear anything so the idea to start calling up some nursing homes came to mind. I know it's been suggested to me b4 but I just had my heart set on the Y. *eyeroll* They were my plan B, it's not like me not to have a C or D, but anyways....

I type some stuff in the search engine and get a site that lists all the nursing homes in Raleigh. I scan through them looking for one with my zip code. I found one and picked up the phone to call. A lady answers and I give her my spill on what I am trying to do. She goes "well good thing I picked up the phone because I am the activities and volunteer director" *YAY* So we talk and I end up leaving work 1o minutes later to go meet this chick. I get there and the place is real easy going and laid back. She gave me a tour of the place and told me about various things I could be doing. We talked a bit about non volunteer stuff and we went to her office so she could give me an app. We talk some more and I ask her when I could start. I can basically start this weekend!!!! YIPPEEEE! I got plans for Saturday but I might try and do something Sunday. Depends on how my sitter situation looks.

When the lady asked me what field I was going to school for I told her PT and she was like oh we need to keep your name on file then. We need more PT's. At that moment in my head I was like "MANNNNNNNNN I wish I was certified right now"! But at the very least I am going to start getting my experience in and I will start networking with the right people. Who knows what kind of doors this nursing home will offer. I may just build up such a good rep with the place that when I do get certified they'll put a sista on! Hmmmmmm who knows? So yeah F da Y! I am not gonna call and ask them to put me on as FREE help no daggone more! They taking weeks to do stuff and I found something else calling one number, talking to one person, and basically getting put on the same day! Oh yeah, I've moved on!

I hate when folks don't call you back about volunteer stuff especially when you are on a deadline...then again if they had called back you woulndt be where you are now and you might have a possible for a hook up after you are certified..WHOOOHOOOO

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY for me! I'm excited.

It was a blessing! The very first call I made off that list was the one! How cool is that. I hope I end up liking this place as much as I think I will.

Okay you snuck a comment on me Honey. Yeah, I am one to believe that everything happens for a reason so I am glad in a way that the Y wasn't on top of their game. A sista is trying trying to build some foundation right now and I feel like I am going in the right direction.

But you'd drop the nursing home like a bad habit and go back to the Y if they called wouldn't you? LOL! Just playing but would you?

Can I get some PT in that dark room with the big desk? I think I pulled something in my back. Maybe you can pull something a bit lower while you're at.

Oh congratulations on the the volunteer work.

LOL, no I wouldn't go if the Y called. With the home I have a better chance of interacting with the PT's there.

Sure you can, tell momma what's wrong. *batting eyes and leads yah to the da back*

Thanks!

you know, for some reason, every Y i've encountered has been unorganized. i wonder why that is.

well, congrats on finding a spot that's a better fit.
