Out of commission

Just as soon as I get my car 100% legal, it acts a fool!

Friday afternoon I get a call from my girl who throws all the get togethers and tells me they getting down kid's pool party style the next day and that Pooka is welcomed to spend the night. Great!

Saturday I went to work, did my thing, stopped at the store, went to the party. I wasn't planning on swimming. I get Pooka situated on a swim chair with another girl slightly younger than her. They go floating along and everything is all good. While the other girls mother was talking to me about her daughters near drown experience, the swim chair our kids were in tipped over! The pool itself isn't deep and all they had to do was stand up which the little girl did, but Pooka went into a panic and the momma I was talking to was in the pool in less than milliseconds! OMG is all I can say about that. Once Pooka got herself together she got back in the pool with a few more safety devices. She fell in love with this Pool School kickboard and no more accidents occurred during her time in the pool. I am going to get her one once all this other stuff has been taking care of.

Party goes on and my girlfriend who has the parties, let's just call her Party Girl since she apparently gets mentioned on my journal has an island themed set up in her backyard. Wood fence, bamboo here, live plant there, it's hard to explain the set up. But around the perimeter of the yard she has tall oil candles/lamps *I don't know what you call them things) about maybe 10 feet or so apart. I am sitting down talking to the momma who saved my child and Party girl was walking towards us to join us when she stopped and yelled for her other half to get the extinguisher. I looked back and one of her candles was BLAZING!!!! It slowly made it's way down the stick and mind you it wasn't even 2 feet from the wooden fence. As the SO went to get the extinguisher me and the other mother was getting the kids out the water and Party girl was standing there. After the blaze was put to rest she told us that when the stick was about to fall she was going to make it fall towards the yard vs. the fence. That was smart thinking cuz that wood would have caught fire, left us in a ring of fire and started to work on the HOUSE! I can't even explain how the atmosphere was when the fire was put out.

We all stood there for a good minute in silence. Wow, just wow even as I think about it that situation boggles me. I thank God they had an extinguisher because that was the only thing that would have put the oil fire out. They had baking soda but not enough to take care of blaze that size. Needless to say after we all were functioning again Party Girl's SO went out for more alcohol.

Party goes on, kids are dry, dressed, and playing in the kids room. The baby girl of the momma who saved Pooka came downstairs and told us that the kids were not playing with her. Her mother spoke...

"who is not playing with you"

"the the the kids"

"which ones?"

"the black kids"

Now being that the only other white child upstairs was this childs older sister, this caused all of us downstairs to howl with laughter. Oh my goodness it was such a funniest home video moment. Her momma turned red, but she played it off really well. Of course we all played off that for a minute after we got the kids st8. "The black kids won't play with me!" LOL Classic! Just pure tee hi-lar-i-ous! The little girl didn't see what was so funny at the time and it kinda made it even funnier! Man o man...

Also at the party, Party Girl's cousin and his wife were there. I haven't seen them in like forever. I used to like looking at PG's husband, but just look. He wasn't my type, plus he was married. The last time I heard about them 2 they were at a bumpy place in their marriage was were considering separation. I don't know what happened between then and now but they walked in with a brand new baby, new meaning the baby is a month old today new and the husband ain't as cute as he used to be. They must have found that spark again and you could see it in how they interact with each other and the baby! The thought of them making it through the rough spot and found their marriage was worth fighting for made me so proud of them. The wife laughed at me when I told her, but I was serious. They are young, but they been married for 10 years! That's a long time. I am so happy for them.

I got to hold the baby while the other adults went to the back to enjoy the "tree lighting ceremony". As soon as I positioned his head in the crook of my elbow, we was nudging his head back looking for tatas! I told the baby that there was no milk in those wells. But he kept positioning himself to feed! It...for a brief moment in time...made me want another baby. Key word BRIEF! I got one of his bottles and let him do his thing. He weighed about 7 pounds and was just as nosey/observant as ever. He called himself wanting to pick his head up and look around! Grown self! LOL I do kinda miss the new baby product smell. That's one of the first things that hit me when his mom turned him over to me. That smell. I put him to my nose and said "ooooh he even smells like new baby!" and the parents laughed. His mom told me she smells his blankets and stuff all the time! The clean ones at least! LOL

So anyways, the party ends and I say my goodbyes, give Pooka some love and get on the road. I start to hear this weird noise like a mini motorcycle or something. Once I figure out the noise was coming from my car I started to mentally troubleshoot. This sound was new to me and I couldn't place where it was coming from but I hear it was under the hood and to the right. As I got closer to my place the voltage and temperature lights came on, oh great, the alternator (so I thought). Then when I turned on to my street it was extremely hard to turn the wheel! Wonderful, power steering issues...I made it to my place and parked the car. Butchie the mechanic(me) opens the hood and as soon as I turn on the flashlight I see what is out of place. My girlfriend tells me that that particular part is a pulley. So I hit the net to try and figure out which pulley it is so I can do my research and come correct with my mechanic or anyone else. I haven't figured it out yet but I will.

So now I don't have a car. I don't have repair money or money to tow my car to my mechanic of choice. Last night I could not understand why things happen the way they happen to me. I wasn't doing anything I didn't have any business doing, so why break down on me now? Why break down after I fill the gas tank up? Why break down when I get all the legal stuff situated? Why break down after I paid all my bills already? Why me, isn't good supposed to happen to those that try to be good? I don't understand and maybe it's not meant for me to understand. I do know that next tax season I will purchase a newer vehicle and kept my car now for backup.

Now I gotta figure out how to get Pooka home and how I am going to function this week. I going to ask Party Girl if she would bring Pooka home and as much as I hate to ask, I am going to ask Slim Shady for a ride back and forth from work. I am sure Party Girl would bring her back, but I am not sure SS would get me around especially since I am not putting money immediately in her hand for gas. LAL works a few blocks from my job, but I don't know what his new number is or were he is living now. The last time we spoke he was looking for another place. So depending on where he is staying it may be out of his way for him to pick me up. I won't be able to call him at work till tomorrow. Maybe he'll read my blog today and call me!

At least I don't have to find a way to school. Thank God for that!

The only thing that is certain is that I am NOT going to work tomorrow and that I will look back at this situation and smile. I tried to cry last night, but I couldn't. I tried hard but I was denied the opportunity to cry. Guess that means that this isn't worth crying over. Who knows!

wow, you've had an eventful weekend. so sorry to hear about the car. i hate that feeling i'd get when my old rides started to act funny. this time last year, i was driving an old work horse of a car that i named Henry. Henry was always on the verge of breaking down. oh, sorry, i was taking a trip down memory lane. back to you; yeah, as cliche as it may sound, your ride broke down at that moment for a reason, no matter how inconvenient the timing was. but, i know that feeling of wanting to cry, but the tears just won't come. i agree w/ you; it probably means the situation wasn't worth crying over.
i'm sooo glad nothing caught on fire. depending on how dry the grass was, letting the tiki torch fall on the yard may have caused the fire to travel even faster and burn everything up.
keep your head up this week! it'll all fall into place.

Sorry to hear about your car. At least you weren't on the freeway or in the middle of rush hour when it decided to die on you.

BB, it will all work out. It always does. I am just currently concerned that it's 9:15 and Party Girl hasn't dropped off my youngin!
LOL

Everyone of us are so thankful that the fire didn't further than it did! My girl put a lot of work and money into her house and yard.

Freaky, I am soooo thankful that I at the very least got home last night.
