Organic

While listening to a radio program yesterday I started thinking yet again about going organic. The topic of the show was about the drug industry and how some of these drugs out there will hurt you more than help you. I agreed with much that was said during the program *which is rare* because we are a drug taking nation. I don't know many people that are not taking a drug for something. I know of too many people who take 5 plus pills daily and to me that can't be right. Example, when I was in Durham this past weekend, one of the ladies had finished her sandwich she brought with her and went in her purse to get whatever pills she "needed" to take after eating and she pulls out this gallon sized ziplock bag with like 12-15 pill bottles in it! No exaggeration! Then K-digga says "oh you got a pill bag too. I got one, moms and pops got one," etc...That is simply INSANE. There is no way you can tell me with all that crap she is talking throughout the day it's not counteracting one another, but whatever. I don't have any letters behind my name nor profiting off the drug sale so whatever. The topic started going towards holistic remedies and organics came up.

Just like getting dreads, I think about it, stop, think about it, stop, back and forth for a while and one day I just decided to do it. I think I am reaching that point in regards to going organic. I know that organics are more expensive and the section in the grocery store is kinda small and even realize that Whole Foods is a little ways away from my place (but on the bus line :-)), but I really want to try and see if the transition will make a difference. Hopefully like my hair transitioning out won't be so bad as I am thinking it will be. I just have to get used to pre-preparing my foods cuz I can't think of any fast food places that do organic and it's so easy to pull up to the drive thru on days like Monday where there is not much time between work and school. It has been decided that my next big grocery run will be at Whole foods and slowly shift my kitchen into organic foods.

Part of me wondered about letting go of meat eventually like so many others but I already know that I don't want to do that so I doubt if I ever put that into play in my life. I know I do want to get into meat that hasn't been pumped with stuff to make the meat bigger. I was telling someone last night that I don't need Pooka to have breast, hips, and a ghetto booty at 10 years old. Her booty is already poking out more than I want it to at 5. :-(

I don't see organic in my future. But I do not take meds. There is a rare occasion that I pop a pill for something. The only pills I pop are my birth-control and that is for very good reason :-)

Well if you decide to really do it good luck with your transformation.

U r a good 1 2 take birth control pills, with my memory I'd be pregnant!

As of today I am going to slowly try to get into it. The idea is to be mostly organic (I doubt I can go 100%) by the end of the year so I will have time to notice any changes.

What actually happens? Who knows! LOL

Thanks for the luck.

Pooka got a booty LOL...why when you said that all I could think of was toot that thang up mommie make it roll, LOL we DONT need her pop lock and droppin it.

Hmm eating some organic food for me might be interesting but I don't think I would want to do it full time LOL..whatever you decide glad that your taking the time to research it..how is are the locs looking?

Ladynay said...

I am not gonna even attempt to entertain the thought of your first statement...NOPE! We don't need it and not having it. Period.

I am going to try and see what is up.

The locs are doing okay, can't see my scalp anymore and I don't go back to the chick till next month. They are still presentable to wear out at work. I got some small budding going in the back. YAY!

Well this is interesting. I fall into the 'it costs to stay alive' trap. It's quite expensive here to eat organic.

I just decided to eat more fresh by going to the farmers market and that is taxing my freaking wallet as well.

Just start slow and I take too many pills already so that's that.

Ladynay said...

Yeah that is the plan to slowly work it in my life. I LOVE the farmers market despite my attendance, LOL!

Sorry you take so much, that sucks! Nothing cancels out the other?

the only thing that stops me from going organic is the cost.

i also think i read somewhere that for some things, organic isn't necessarily better. this book i started reading (i mentioned it in my last post) discusses the merits of eating organic and how you have to be really careful that it's really organic.

the other day in Panera i saw this girl who couldn't have been more than 10 or 11 and babygirl had more hips and booty than me! so, yeah, all those hormones are wreaking havoc on our children.

i totally agree with the meds point.

Ladynay said...

I think I see ghosts! (j/k)

Yeah your right, there is no real way to assure what your getting is truely organic but I am still going to try.

You be getting your Panera on! I ain't mad at you, just the early developed girl you saw :-(

i dont think i could go organic... but good luck to u on that one!!

lol @ seeing ghosts. yeah, i was on break for a minute.

girl, since i don't have internet at the apt. anymore, i have to get more Panera on, w/ their free wireless! :-)

Ladynay said...

THANK GOD Pooka don't know what she got on her body yet!

Go head and get the "clink clink" for your goddaughter now.

Thanks, Imma slowly give it a shot.

BB, oh yeah that's right you mentioned that. I'd be gettin' my Panera on too then! Nothing like free!

I can't believe you're trying to stunt her booty. You know you don't need organic foods to stop her growth just give her a pack of Marlboros and you'll be good. LOL!

I so want to call CPS and the NAACP on you for some reason.

I hear you about the medicine. The thing is you either need those letters after your name or an awful lot of free time and an experimental nature to figure out what you need, what you don't, and all of the possible interactions betwixt medications.

Ladynay said...

Freaky, I am slowing it down so the little boys that were like you won't be trying to touch all on it! ROFL

Indeed there is so much stuff out there it is hard to decipher the good stuff you need and the crap you don't and if good drug A will block the effects of good drug B :-(

*sigh* little miss has a ghetto booty already. You know how u wear ya jeans even with a belt and they gap in the back. Her waist...supa small, her bootie...NOT. She dont know it yet tho. Not really. When I tell her she has a peanut butter booty she just tells me that i have a bigger one (smartass!)

Organic...I've seen it a lot more lately but I swear I can't afford it. We still just a coupla weeks away from ooodles and noodles as it is. I wish I could just get away from meat all together too but thats not happening. Good luck with that sweetie, keep us posted on the progress.

I sometimes buy organic fruit when I want to splurge. It's not often. I will never let meat go. Just can't do it.

Ladynay said...

Unfortunately I know exactly what you are talking about *sigh*

I'll keep you posted on how it goes. I am in the same boat you are in mostly and even more so after I go out of town but I am still going to try it out if I can. Mayby buying more expensive food will teach my butt about portion control.

Ladynay said...

Southern, I can't give the meat up either! It sounds good sometimes to do it but I know better! ROFL

There was a study a few years ago that basically came to the conclusion that the average person didn't agree with the food labels on what constituted a serving. I believe it was recommended that it either be looked into or the serving sizes be changed to reflect more realistic portions. I wish I remembered more specifics like who ran it and when.

Are you disparaging my character? It's not the boys like me that need to be watched it's the fast, hot in the pants, little girls out there craving attention and validation from outside that need to be watched. You might be surprised at how freaky little girls are. If I was a teen now I'm sure I'd have at least three or four kids by now.

I'm still thinking about calling CPS on you though. That's just cruel. Cruel I tell you.

Ladynay said...

Hmmmm depending on how long ago the research was conducted it may have worked. Portions are alot bigger than they were years ago.

Oh I beleive you about the young chickas out there. I live across the way from one that is hot in the butt! Darn shame.

Organic .... YAYYYYY!!!!!!

I started the organic thing slowly. I started first with my favorite veggies and at that time I was still eating chicken and turkey regularly so I would buy my chicken from whole foods. It is really not that bad because I am single. But right now I do shop at kroger and publix too.

I dont take the pills I am supposed too. I only take my vitamins right now.

Honestly I notice a change. but I hope you do well in this and you get the outcome you desire.

Ladynay said...

Dang your organic too! LOL

I take it Publix is a grocery store. I love me some Kroger and they have a pretty decent size organic section. They sell my soy icecream in that section...mmmmmmm :-P

What kinds of changes have you personally noticed? I don't have a particular desire in mind I just want to see what happens. Many people spoke so positively about it on the radio yesterday and I heard and read other testimonies about it in the past. I am just curious if I would feel that much different if I tried it.

deepnthought said...

well, since I have changed my eating habits, I have noticed my breathing and energy has increased.

My skin is clearer, but I say that has to do with no pops (sodas). I like it.

Ladynay said...

Tres cool! I hope I get some energy as well :-)
