Bills, bills, bills

Just when I budgeted my money out and give myself a slight cushion something comes up out the blue! It's usually never really cheap either :-(

Babydaddy called me at work 2 days ago and said something along the lines that someone might be calling me about a bill for Pooka. See while Pooka was chilling with her dad early last year she got sick and he took her to the emergency room. Not exactly sure if Pooka's NC coverage worked where he is, he gave me the unopened bills that came to him when I picked Pooka up to take her back home. When I opened them the bill was 95 bucks. That was cheap enough for me to handle so I paid it myself and left it at that. So when I get the call from babydaddy I get in business mode and decide to beat the billing dept/collection dept calling me and call them to let them know I paid that bill. I went online and printed stuff out and everything to prove I paid.

After talking to just about everyone in the hospital I was directed to the proper place and was told that there where 2 bills, one for the ER and one for the doctor. The 95 bucks was for the doctor. I don't even wanna go into how much the ER was but just know it was no where near cheap! I can't have my childs name floating around some collection agency's database so I pulled out the wallet and gave them my info. *sigh* I start calling around my childs insurance company trying to find out if she is covered for out of town medical emergencies. Through the many transfers I finally left a message for a chick who is the supervisor. She called me back yesterday morning and led me on another long trail to find the answer to a simple question: Is she covered when she is out of state? If she was I was going to see if I could get a reimbursement for the payment I made. I finally got someone who could help me and she told me no, for the most part, it's the providers choice if they have an enrollment with them or want to enroll and fill out the paperwork for NC. *sigh* Then if the provider was enrolled with them the provider has to make the claim, not the patient or the collection agency so it was too late anyways! Great!

So I call Babydaddy and ask him how come he didn't give me the other bill when he gave me the first one and he says gave me everything that was mailed to him. *shrug* I told him about the second bill and he claims he is going to give me some of the money back. Truth be told I doubt if I see anywhere close to half of what I paid. Whatever. Part of me says that I shouldn't have paid any of it cuz it happened while she was in his care. But at the time we kinda thought her NC insurance may just cover it. I don't know. I want to be mad, but I can't. That's my child and the bill had to get paid. I wasn't really ready to do it but it had to be done. I just wish her dad was in a better financial position to help me in times like this. *sigh* whatever. I handled it so I need to move on. My trip money got dipped into but business before pleasure. Aunt Diva has a digital cam and I am sure she will send the pictures that she takes to me, so I don't really NEED a digi cam right now. :-(

Did I have to pay the bill off like that right now? No, so I can't really complain. But I really have a problem knowing my daughters name was out there like that, so to ease my mind I had to take care of it while I was in contact with the proper people and had the $ to pay.

I made the right choices.

P.S. Just in case your email accounts were not flooded with this, tomorrow is Orange and Maroon Effect day. In honor of those that were taken in the VT shootings folks are asking that you sport the colors.

AR-gal, somehow some way your comment got lost in the sauce so I am reposting it for you! LOL

AR-gal:

Yes you did the right thing LadyNay, you may be able to write that off for taxes next year.

Oh yeah, please tell babydaddy to step up his game already. How is he just going to not open the medical bills that were mailed to him? Schucks he could have at least paid the doctor's bill or taken the initiative to see if a payment plan was available for the larger bill.....smh. Men can be really thoughtless at times.

Ladynay:

In his defense. Both of us kinda thought that her insurance would pay for the bill. I never told him that I paid the 1st bill out of pocket so he was under the impression that the insurance covered it. When the collection folks called him up the other day he just gave them my name and number supposedly thinking it was about that first bill and that I had the info to handle it.

As far as the payment plan, he still needs to work one out with ME! LOL I laugh but I am serious. At least half the bill.

I'm glad we have ARKids First here in Arkansas. It's a bill the governor sign years ago that allows people that make less than $50,000(I think) have the state or whoever pay ALL the doctor bills and medicine plus dental care. I think if you make over $28,000/yr you have to pay a copay. When I first applied I just had my baby so I had less income coming in so the first year I didn't have to a pay a copay for doctor visits or medicine. Since my renewal last March I have to pay a copay of $10 for doctor visits and $5 for medicine. Everything else is taken care of.

She that's something close to what I was thinking. That all her medical expenses would be covered no matter where she was when it whatever happens happen. But I have learned that that is not really the case. If she gets sick/hurt in NC she is st8 (thank Goodness) and little to nothing comes out my pocket...it just gets shaky when she leaves the state.

Everyone should check their medical coverage for out of state and out of country coverage. I guess you too may need to communicate a little better. Sucks about the bill. Keep the bills and your receipts and you might be able to write it off.

Don't have anything orange. :o(

See, I told you you were the best mommy. I know some folks who have no problems with putting stuff in their babies name. that and not paying bills that come in their name. You still going to have a blast in Jamaica.

Freaky, you are not lying. I need to look stuff up for myself b4 I roll out! It's a good thing to know.

My receipts coming in the mail so I will mos definitely lock it up and see what I can do or not do with it come the end of the year.

Wear some burgundy/maroon then and eat an orange :-)

DNT, I know parents like that too sad to say. Pooka is covered until she is older and starts making her own little bills, then she is on her own! LOL

Hey you got like a week before your trip - you excited. Ok nobody needs be excited as I am when I do something, lol but you haven't talked about it much.

Who's watching Pooka?

Are you gonna blog? LOL

Ladynay said...

ROFL, not really. It's obvious that I am not as excited as I am supposed to be because people keep asking me that! LOL

Her dad is watching her.

I really doubt I will blog when I am gone. I may read/skim through a blog or few if I have time or access to the internet due to addiction, but I serious doubt there will be any entries from me while I am on vacation :-)

I can't believe that it wasn't covered because she was out of state. that doesn't really make sense to me.

Anyway, glad you had the money to pay, but sorry babydaddy can't do more :-(

Ladynay said...

J, at least you know you're not ready. I am sure you got plenty you want to do before you have to share the spotlight! LOL

Trina, me neither but it is what it is *shrug* It's taken care of so I don't have to worry about it anymore.
