Yeah more school stuff. This is my blog and if I gotta get it out I gotta get it out!
First...I got enough on my test to keep my A! YAY! I got a 79% when I needed to get 73%! So I am happy about that. I won't know until tomorrow if that is with my Bodies extra credit points or not. Either way I still got my A. Because I am an impatient geek I worked the numbers and figured out that I need to get at least a 87% on my final to seal the deal on my A for the class. I strongly believe I can do that! *cheese*
Before class I was talking to a classmate and she asked me if I was taking something for summer II. When I told her swimming her eyes lit up and she asked me with whom. I told her and she told me the chick I have is new so she don't know how she is. Then she said "as long as you don't have Vaughn you should be st8". Then my eye lit up cuz that is who I have for Swimming II! OMG! She told me he is a pass or fail teacher, either you do it or you don't. I knew that the final for swimming II was 72 lengths (1 mile) but I didn't know that if you do 71 of them joints you fail!!!! WTH! I told her she was playing and another classmate had come up just when I said that, he asked what we was talking about and we said swimming. The first thing out his mouth was "You don't want Vaughn" AGHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Now I could take swim II another semester but that would mess my schedule up and I want to go ahead and get both swim courses out of the way in one swoop.
I just think of it like this. I got 4 or 5 months of pool practice before I have to swim that mile. I think I am going to dub it THE BLUE MILE. LOL I can do this! My classmate told me all swim II basically is working your way up to the final. Maybe I can leave some of these pounds in the water while I am at it! Hmmmmmm Did I mention I would have to do the mile in an hour? ROFL I can't do it! Watch, this body of extra cushion is going to be a toned up BEAST when this is all said and done. I am going to do the blue mile in an hour or less and walk out that university pool with an A. Watch me!
Other than that, when I got back to work something possessed me to call the Duke PT program to get an idea of from what time to what time I'd be in school (assuming I got in). The lady, who was as sweet as pie, told me that they highly suggest first year students NOT to work!!!!!! Huh? What? I asked her "what if you have to work for a living?" to which she said that the first year is very intense and very stressful. Many students have an extremely hard time working and dealing with the first year of the program. She said the second year has a bit more flexibility than the first and that's when most of their students find a small part time gig. *sigh* We spoke on the phone a good 5 minutes and all her info was helpful. I will admit, part of me became discouraged and thought about changing my career choice, but that lasted all of 2 seconds. As of today I want to be a PT. At the very end of the convo she said that she didn't want to discourage me but she wasn't going to lie about what the program is like. She suggested that applying for the program when the time came wouldn't hurt anyone. I really appreciated talking to her.
So instead of looking towards a good night time job, I am keeping an eye out for a good weekend job. I've even considered having the gov't help me if all else fails by time I have to make some choices. I know of one person who is on a program where they will pay her rent if she is a full time student. That's cool. But like I said, I don't have to make any choices right now so I have time to figure out how I am gonna lay out my blue print.

kudos to you for being able to figure out what you needed to keep your A. i was never able to do that for some reason.
sorry to hear about the Swimming 2 issue. just pray, practice and hope for the best. i'm sure you'll do fine. i don't even know how to swim, so props (uhm, do ppl still say props...lol) again to you!
yeah, welcome to the life of a grad student. you either gotta work really hard to get someone to pay your way or pay for it yourself. i hope the former happens for you.
Well my teacher made it easy, everything is online.
I'll take my props whether the saying is stale or not :-) I'll do fine because I don't have a choice. I don't do failure if I can help it.
Yeah, I see! On the website they basically said there are loans around but they are limited and don't cover everything. That is, if I read it right :-( Part of me says to stash some of this undergrad stuff in an interest bearing account for the 2 more years I got, but I know I will end up spending it on something.
Don't you just hate those hardball teachers? Especially when it is considered an "easy" class. *sigh* I can't swim either so you will be doing leaps and bounds better than me.
the fact that you are taking swimming is really big in my book. I have an issue with large bodies of water. I dont do pools, lakes, rivers, oceans, or beaches.
You got that in the back.
way to go on the grade thing.
Ar and DNT, what's up with not being able to swim? Not good :-(
DNT, BEACHES????For real? Dang man that sucks. I know other folks that don't do large bodies of water like that either, but it still sucks.
Are you still going to where that itty bitty thong? What? Maybe you can get a part-time job teaching bloggers how to swim. I'm not that great of a swimmer but as long as the water isn't too deep I'm straight.
Sorry to hear that the advice wasn't what you expected or wanted to hear. Well, now you have some time to figure things out and make plans. Tick tock, Jane Doe. Tick tock.
Cool if the bloggers pay well and it works with my school schedule, I may have to do that part time swim teacher thing. LOL I'll wear the itty bitty thong if you do...what?
MY NAME IS LADYNAY DAMN IT!!!! hahahahahaa
So we both can get laughed at? Nope, I'm not going to jail for any accidental drownings. I prefer the intentional kind. ;o)
Ummmm no comment. *mental note* Freaky drowns folks on purpose.
well, with the govt. loans, you can only take out a certain amt. each yr. and they usually don't take care of everything. now, if you get a private loan, you can take out up to the full cost of your education and living expenses are of course counted towards the cost of your education. of course, you want to avoid private loans at all costs since the interest rate is so high and oftentimes variable.
are there are any grants available for PT students? my inclination is that there aren't any since it's like a Master's program (correct?). but, i could be wrong...
Nope, no grants that I am currently aware of. If I go to Duke it's a Doctorate program, if I go to Winston Salem it would be a masters...
@Ladynay. I just don't like having water in my eyes or up my nose. My mom enrolled me in swimming classes when I was like 6 or 7 at the public pool one summer. Everything was going great until the time came to put our heads underwater. Honey child, I showed up and showed out! I never went back after that. Did I mention it was the first day? lol lol
On a brighter note, I can wade in the water with the best of 'em though! lol
