I like money

I got all my financial aid stuff signed sealed and approved. I know when my first check is going to come and approximately how much it's going to be. Can I live off that check for the next 6 months? Yes, but my current way of living will change. No more extra anything. Little to no going out to eat. No impulse buys because so and so would love that. Starting in 2010 I will be on needs only as far as budget or something won't get paid. I HATE that!

My mom has pretty much made a concrete choice to stay in MD when we go for Christmas. This means that I have to leave the weekend job. My last day will be the 20th. I am happy I don't have to clean up adult body waste and all that "fun" stuff. But I will miss that paycheck coming in. The plan was to quit everything but the weekend job, but now I am planning to quit everything but the state job. I have to talk to my supervisor and see if she is down for me working one day a week (we have most Wednesday's off @ Elon) and on some Saturday's. I just can't go without getting a pay check. Maybe I really am a workaholic. Maybe I like money toomuch. Maybe it's a little bit of both. I have been doing more than one thing (school and work, or multiple jobs) for as long as I remember. To just go to school seems odd to me. It's like I have to be doing something else with it. I can't explain it.

Yesterday once mom told me she had a doctor's appt. in MD in January I kinda got the feeling that she is really going to stay up there. After I hung up from my mom I thought the convo through for a sec then called my weekend job supervisor and told her I was bouncing and when. It's not professional to do it by phone, but I won't be able to give it to her in writing till later and the sooner she knows I'm leaving, the sooner she can start the process of replacing me. Man I am going to miss that check. Not that it was a large one, but still *sigh*

I won't lie, part of me wants to look up a part time job on the weekends. Something like 4 hours Saturday and 4 hours Sunday. But there is a part of me telling me not to and that everything is going to be okay without the extra job. Besides, I really miss hanging with Pooka, taking her to the park, and walking the trail with her on the weekends. It's like I rarely hang with her much cuz I'm gone once she gets up and when I get home it's 7:30-8:00 p.m. and the day is done. :-( At least if my state job is down with the Wednesday, some Saturday deal I can bring her with me on Saturdays.

I don't know what I will end up doing outside of school come January.

****edit****
So next year I may have to move.

My lease is up in May. I live in income based housing. It's not section 8, but I can't make over a certain amount of money to live there. I went in to pay my rent and out of curiousity I asked the chick at the desk what would they consider as income if I went to graduate school and didn't work? She didn't know but told me to call X or Y and they'd tell me. I get back to work and call X. She asked me what I will be living off of. I told her loans and that I would have enough to cover my rent. She said that she wasn't sure if they would consider my full loan as my income or the amount I am credited. She said that they have had instances like that before when people went to school, which they think is "great", but it's poverty by choice and they may not accept that. "Because it's not like you are working trying to make your way into a house." Word? That's not what folks go to school for? To try and advance themselves so they can move up? Oh ok *eyeroll*

Long story short X couldn't definitely answer my question so she transferred me to Y. He was at lunch but I basically left a message asking him if they considered my full loan amount as my income or only what I am credited. Because basically that's all I need to know. If they consider my full loan amount, then I may have to move. I hate moving, but there are 2 locations on my same street (which mean no need to transfer schools for Pooka) that cost a bit more but they are not income based. So either way I got a plan. Next year I will be either in my apartment or some yards down! LOL! I'm ready! One of the 2 spots even allows dogs! If we end up moving there Pooka would have a field day! HAHAHA!

You've got a child to care for (in addition to yourself) so I totally understand why you would want the additional income. Stuff happens when you least expect so it's always good to have an emergency fund to dip into if need be.

Right, that too!

I'm so glad you have a back up plan on the rent situation. I'm not saying quit your state job but you might want to wait until you start your program and see the amount of work you have before you start looking for another one. The amt. of work in grad school is insane. Esp. at the end of the semester.

That's a great suggestion! If the pre-program work is an indication of the in program work I will definitely have my hands full! My mind is just kinda everywhere right now.

Ummmmm aren't you supposed to be working on a project right now? Time's ticking! LOL!
