PTA momma!

That's me! LOL I went to my first PTA meeting ever last night. While walking towards the school all I wanted was to see at least one other melonated parent there. I got in and I saw more than a few and it made my heart glad. There where many nationalities in attendance and a quite a few daddies! Awwwwwww! Matter of fact there was standing room only in the small auditorium of the school. That's HOT! I remember back in the day I would beg my mom to go to PTA meetings. It was mostly because my close friends parents went and I knew they would be there, but see always said no. Fortunately for Pooka I am going to be up in that school every moment I can!

The principal mentioned that he wanted to try to start a chess/checkers club for the school. Me, being a chess club member back in the day, was like BINGO, that's what I'll volunteer for, but they are doing it in the mornings and I just can't swing that. I haven't played either game in years. :-(

It's the 2 week of school and the Fall fundraiser has already started! If you would like to view the items for sale, I can email you the fundraiser link. That's right, you can order online and for a few extra bucks they will mail it to you! When I read through the fundraiser packet I was just blown away! When I was in elementary school I vividly recall me and my neighbor going door to door harassing every neighbor we can to buy something! Times have changed and with folks not in there right mind you can't send the kids door to door no more, they just may not come home. But if you really wanna see, seriously, let me know.

In other Pooka news, her doctor called me yesterday and told me she doesn't have the tree nut allergy! Yipeee! This weekend I am going to give her a piece of pecan just to see if she breaks out in hives like she did 3 years ago. I will have my benedryll in hand just in case.

Then....

While driving to the school Pooka asked me a question that took me off guard...

"What do you do with your left foot?"

I didn't know what she was talking about so I asked her "what about my left foot?"

"Why don't you use it down there?" As she pointed towards the car petals.

I paused for a moment and asked myself if she was observing me drive, cuz I really hope that's not the case, kids like to imitate! I told her the truth tho'....

"You only need to drive with your right foot, you don't have to use the left one"

"Oh" as I watched the new info sink in to her brain.

Lesson from yesterdays conversation: Keep my car keys with me at ALL times and put them somewhere high up when I'm in the house! LOL, but seriously...

In family news, the guy who murdered my cousin Memorial Day weekend last year got sentenced to 17-21 years for 2nd degree murder. I don't think that's long enough but he got off scott free when he killed 2 other people earlier on so I guess something is better than nothing. My cousin who got shot was the son of my grandfathers brother. Could you imagine going to your brothers funeral during the trial about the murder of your son? I wish I could send or do something to ease whatever him and my aunt are experiencing, but there is really nothing you can do but send up thoughts and prayers.

you should've told her u use the left foot to catch the beat of whatever song ur listening too :-)

that's good that she's observant like that! and that you're going to be involved in her school life

Awwwww TDD that was a good response! To bad I didn't think of it at the time. I was just taken by the question and it's origination, LOL!

I think it is very important to know first hand what goes on at your child's school. I mean, she is there the majority of her day! I don't see how some parents/guardians can just send their kids out the door and don't know what they are doing and who they are interacting with. That to me is just insane!

My mom was never into the PTA, that sucks!

LOL @ melonated! I like it, made up word or not.

I can see all the kids on MySpace spamming the hell out of everyone trying to pimp the candy or whatever it is they're selling.

Don't expose Pooka to the secrets of the Devil's van! It will make sure she finds a way to those keys. Mark my word.

Man, it's crazy! They want you to push this overpriced stuff!

Pooka ain't going nowhere near the drivers seat of the van...TRUST that, at least not when the keys are in it!

my mom never really came to PTA stuff, but i didn't really mind. what got me is when she didn't really go to parent teacher conferences. she finally told me that she didn't because everytime she went teachers looked at her like, why are you here? i guess they thought conferences were for the bad kids. lol...

anyway, glad to see you're getting involved.

I am glad to hear that your relatives murderer was brought to justice. The crimes we do to ourselves are just too much to bear.

On a lighter note -- hide the keys they (kids) grow up way too fast.

BB, I guess they figured if the student was doing well they where not going to see the childs parents *shrug* Most parents don't come up to the school unless the child is cutting up!

Rahman, welcome and I don't think he got enough time and I will definitely hide the keys!

I agree with you. Hide the keys....
YAY, you play chess... cool. My mom was at everything. It was funny to her because the teachers would just all get together and have our confrences at one time in one big room so she would not have to come up to the school 6 different times for all of us. It was always at least 6 kids at one school at one time.

6 kids at a time??? OMG!
