She'll be 8 in August

As we are riding to the cookout Pooka decided to get comfortable and sit with her hands behind her head. At a stoplight I turned around to ask her something and something under her arm caught my eye. I assumed it was a little bit of dirt or something. We do the cookout thing and come home. As Pooka is taking her clothes off I decide to take another look under her arm. Most of what caught my was dirt....the rest of it was hair......HAIR!!!!!!! It's barely noticeable but it is there! Pooka, wondering why I was once again paying attention to her underarms, asked me what was wrong. I told her nothing was wrong with her, I found a few strands of hair under her arm and that deodorant was going to become a part of her morning routine. She seems excited about the deodorant thing *shrug* After the deodorant talk a question just flowed right out of my mouth....

"Have you ever seen blood in your panties?"

*looking at me like "What kind of question is THAT?"* "Noooooo" *insert Pooka's confused look*

"Oh ok, just wondering." I saw the next question coming. You could almost see the wheels in her brain going full speed.

"Why?"

*insert monthly cycle talk which ends in Pooka's horrified look like "OHMYGOD are you trying to tell me that one day I will bleed...FROM THERE????????"*

I feel kinda good that we have started the first of quite a few female to female chats. I feel even better that Pooka said that she will tell me when ever her cycle starts (which I hope isn't for many years to come, at least 5 years, years, AT LEAST, no sooner, 5 years or more, lol!)

I guess I have to buy her some Teen Spirit or something of the like tomorrow....*sigh*

*does the math in my head*

Has it really been that long since 2001??!! Good-NESS!! It really does not seem that long. Now I'm over here reminiscing. lol

For your sake AND Pooka's, I hope you two don't have to cross that bridge for another 5 years (at least) either.

Yep, we are close to 1/2 through 2009! Time stops for no one.

At least are the key words! LOL! I am sooooooooooooooooo not ready for the hormones pumping, the cramps, the PMS, and all the other lovely stuff that comes with being female!

and that is one (of many) reasons i pray for sons!

that being said, it's good that you've started to talk with her about those things. now, let's hope you don't have to revisit it for a loooong while! ;-)

ROFL@I wanted a boy as well. But it was not meant happen that way this go around.

It's so much easier to take them to get a hair cut real quick than to do a head of hair.

A long long long long long time from now :-P I wouldn't mind if she was older than typical as long as she was healthy. LOL!

When I first started growing a mustache my mom thought my face was dirty and was always telling me to go wash it until she realized it was peach fuzz and the beginning of my facial hair.

Take her with you and let her pick out her own underarm scent. Teen Spirit? Well at least you didn't say Tussy. I still can't look at that without thinking about changing a letter. What?! I'm not the only one who has that thought.

I'm so glad I'm not qualified to have that talk. I'd rather have the wet dreams talk then the crimson tide talk any day. LOL.

Lawd, I am so ready to have that talk - wait. I have a boy! yeeesss! LOL Well, good thing you have established an open line of communication so that she will be comfortable talking about those kinds of things with you. You definitely want that. I'll be praying for 5 more years for you. LOL

Aww...little Pooka's growing up. It must be interesting and scary seeing the changes slowly happening with her. I'm glad you had the talk with her so that she'll know what to expect when that time comes.

FD, go wash your face.

She did pick what she wanted.

I'd rather have the wet dream talk that the cycle talk as well but I don't have much of a choice.

Monique, see all yall other bloggers have boys! Not fair! LOL!

TZ, Lil J is so active I am not shocked she started creating an odor early. I still can believe your son will be driving soon and got that bass in his voice. From my view you've done a good job with him. Now lets see what you do with lil mama! LOL!

ARgal, notice how I left that part alone? LOL!

E, scary and interesting indeed. Like you said, now at the least, she knows that it's coming. And it won't come for many many many many many many years :-P

OMG, they grow up so fast!! I'm glad you're talking to her early so she gets to know her own body and all of that. Get thee to the Teen Spirit aisle, lol!

Tasha, unfortunately you're right. Hopefully her body was just doing a small trial run....yeah that's it! LOL
